When entering, sailing through, or leaving Turkey, all vessels have to go through the customs clearance process with the port authorities. Yacht documentation, including crew and passenger list, will be checked by the port authorities’ representatives and then customs will issue a transit log that is a renewable one. This document enables the yacht to navigate in Turkish waters. Don’t forget that you need to give the transit log back to the customs when you leave Turkey.
Together with the original registration document, yachts must have a ship radio license. Moreover, to operate the radio or VHF, one member of the crew needs to have an appropriate certificate. Another important document - the original insurance certificate is also required because it confirms the third party insurance with the amounts represented in figures. Together with that, the yacht captain must have an ICC (in other words, you need an International Certificate of Competence). For vessels that are going to navigate between different Turkish ports, the procedure is simple: you only need to have authorization on a transit log from a local harbormaster.
